Children in the streets are a population which is not static. Over the years CAS dealt with migrant children, children who are born on the street, urban poor children as well as working children.
These children could be captured under the name “out of school children”.
The
short term goal is to help these children by returning their dignity to
develop into respectful citizens of the society. The long term goal is
to educate the children in such a way that they can find suitable
employment to build up their future lives.
CAS
consists of five (5) departments: The House of Refuge, Demonstration,
Hopeland, Long term and Short Sponsorship . Out of school children are
made to go through all the programmes and activities organized by each
department as part of their preparation to leave the street. However,
CAS has conducted a lot of research into the background of these
children and majority shows that the problem of out of school children
is a very complex one and cannot be solved overnight.
